OUR TEAM MEMBERS
Brett began working at R & D in 2013. With years of experience in the industry, Brett has brought expertise to the team with every installation and project that he’s worked on. Brett’s favorite thing about working at R&D is the family environment. Brett said, “I know that my time is important to management. I know this because there is an effort made to make things as efficient as possible. I know they respect me and my time with my family”.
Brett loves to go hiking with his family, and although Georgia doesn’t have as many trails as his home state of Wisconsin, you can still find him enjoying time outdoors.
Chas came onboard with R & D in 2017. Since joining the team, Chas has enjoyed the variety that he encounters everyday with different projects which are all ‘unique in design.’ Chas said, “R & D Mechanical is family oriented. They are dedicated to quality whether it is creating a positive work life for their employees or a product for the customers, they strive for excellence. I love being a part of that.”
When Chas isn’t at work, you’ll find him enjoying time with his wife, Wendy, and their two kids. Chas enjoys volunteering at church, trying new foods and will never say no to a day boating.
Hannah has been working in the HVAC industry for 7 years. She recently moved to the area from Covington. Hannah chose to join the R & D team to continue her career in HVAC and grow in a family environment. “There is such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at R & D. Everyone is so helpful and caring.”
Hannah loves spending her free time with her son and boyfriend while settling into her new home.
After a full career working at the Cherokee County School District, Joseph joined the R & D Mechanical team in April of 2018. With over 30 years of experience, Joseph enjoys working in the industry because he like the challenge of taking something that’s not working and making it functional again. When asked to describe the culture at R & D Joseph said, “It’s a family-based and people-oriented company. The culture keeps people close and that’s good.”
Joseph spends his time away from work golfing, rebuilding older cars and being with his family.
Obadiah, more commonly known as Obie, grew up on a ranch in Montana. He came to R&D looking for an opportunity to learn new things and work hard. Obie said, “If you have a good attitude and are determined to work hard, R&D will give you the training you need to excel in this industry. I never thought I would be doing some of the things that I am doing here, and I am so thankful to R & D for investing in me”.
In his time away from work, Obie enjoys working at his house and being involved in his church.
Sheena joined the R & D team in August of 2010. In her tenure, she has worn many hats and has enjoyed growing with the company and family. Sheena will be graduating with her MBA from Reinhardt University in May of 2019. When asked why she enjoys being a part of the team at R & D she said, “The work environment at R&D is very encouraging and open. This environment is what creates growth in our organization. Everyone here feels like they have the freedom to learn and ask questions.”
When Sheena is not working, she enjoys road trips with husband, Bobby. You can also find her baking or lost in a good book.
Since joining the R & D team, Bryan has enjoyed growing in his craft. He chose to work in HVAC, because he likes that it challenges him daily. When asked what his favorite thing about working with R&D he shared, “I love that this company is all about serving others, it’s never about me. The selfless act of serving someone else motivates me to do better and be better.”
When Bryan isn’t working, you’ll most likely find him spending time with his loved ones, volunteering with his church or fishing. He also enjoys watching sports, especially the Miami Dolphins.
Dana Matiak is a co-owner of R&D Mechanical Services, Inc. and has owned this business since 2002. She has a passion for people and a heart to serve others. When asked what is special about R & D Dana said, “It’s the family atmosphere. It goes beyond the employees, we get to know their families and we get to celebrate the great things in their lives. We also have each other’s backs in the more challenging times. That’s what make R & D special.”
In her time away from R & D, Dana can be found serving others in her work with the Matiak Foundation or leading a church small group with her husband. She also cherishes time with her family and especially enjoys any time that can be spent at the beach.
Heath has been employed with R&D Mechanical since 2011 and became co-owner of the company in January of 2016. He has served in many different capacities over his time with R&D. Currently his role is developing the business from within through focused efforts on long term growth and sustainability. When asked what sets R & D apart he said, “We try to create a place of work that is encouraging and uplifting. We want our team members to feel like they are a part of something bigger than HVAC. We want them to feel like they are making a difference, because they are.”
When not at work Heath enjoys spending time with his family.
Katie became a part of the R & D team in January of 2019. Having worked in Cherokee County since 2012, she had the opportunity to partner with R & D on several occasions serving the community. “I enjoy investing in people. I chose to work with R & D because I knew that this company and my position here would allow me to pursue my passion for people.”
Katie lives in Canton with her husband, Cody and two sons. They enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, playing with their two dogs and practicing every sport their boys are into.
Raul joined the R & D team in 2014. He began his career in HVAC because he liked that he was able to have variety in what he did. He serves R & D Mechanical customers in both installation and service. When asked why he chose to work at R & D Raul said that it was the friendly atmosphere.
Raul lives in Marietta with his family and two dogs. When not at work, Raul can be found fishing.
Stephen has been in HVAC for over 35 years. He obtained his degree in mechanical engineering and went to work as an industrial technician upon graduating. When Stephen relocated to Georgia, he pursued a position with R & D because he saw the potential in the company. “R &D is a great place for someone to grow. There are great people here, a supportive team.”
Stephen and his wife love to spend time working in their yard, but they aren’t homebodies. They enjoy a relaxing jaunt to the Caribbean where Stephen, a certified scuba diver, can explore.
Case began working with R & D in March of 2019 and will be graduating from the Air Conditioning Technology Program at Chattahoochee Technical College in May. Case chose a career in HVAC, because he enjoys working with his hands and completing challenging projects. “Since starting at R & D, I have already been exposed to a variety of new things. I am learning a great deal about the diversity that this field offers and have appreciated the opportunity to learn while working hands on.”
Case like watching sports, fishing and golfing. When not at work Case is spending time with his fiancé, Taylor and their cat, Marley.
David serves every day leading our R & D technicians. When asked what he likes most about R&D David replied “I like working at R&D because it’s a different culture. Everyone has a desire to better each other and help in any way possible. It truly is a team environment!”
When he’s not at work David spends time chasing his two girls around. David loves spending time with his wife and daughters doing anything outside, ideally at the beach.
Having been in the construction industry for 13 year, Jessica came to R & D looking for a family/team atmosphere. Whether working behind the scenes or directly with customers, Jessica provides the very best in all she does. When asked what she likes most about R & D she said, “I love the way R & D is so involved with the community and organizations, it’s absolutely amazing. Everyone makes it feel like home.”
When not at work, Jessica is spending quality time with her husband, son and daughter, who’s a blackbelt. They enjoy volunteering with their church and chasing after their two dogs, Zoey and Joyner.
Lori came on board with R & D in 2017, coming from a teaching background. Lori says that the mission to serve others is what attracted her to the company, and she has exemplified that mission day in and day out. She loves how involved R&D is in the community. Lori said “At R&D you’re not just an employee, your family. R&D gives new meaning to the word integrity. Our customers and our team are top priority.”
When not at work, Lori says that she’s a professional audience member cheering on her kids in their activities.
Ricky loves being presented with a challenge and figuring out how to overcome it. That is why he chose to work in the HVAC industry. Ricky has mastered the art of adding a warm personality to every situation. Ricky said, “One reason it is so easy for me to have a positive attitude all the time is because I love what I do. I love the people I work with every day, and I love that my team is always open to hear my ideas.”
When Ricky is not at work, he coaches softball and enjoys playing music with his family.
Wendell joined the R&D Mechanical Team in summer of 2019 bringing over 25 years of HVAC expertise with him. He is a firm believer that everyday is a good day, and he exemplifies that in all he does. When asked why he likes working in this industry, Wendell said that he enjoys the challenge and problem-solving aspect of the job, as well as getting to know the customers.
In his time away from R&D, Wendell enjoys working at his home and spending time with friends and family.
Since joining the R & D team in 2017, Chad has worked diligently to make sure projects are performed to the best quality. Chad loves the family and team environment at R & D and said, “I love how the company has treated me like family since day one. We give back to the community at R & D, that’s what makes us different!”
When Chad isn’t working, he enjoys the great outdoors, whether at the beach, camping, coaching football or riding four wheelers. He and his wife stay on the move with their five kids.
Eric is pursuing his Associates Degree in Air Conditioning Technology from Chattahoochee Technical College. He joined the R & D team in 2018 to enhance his learning experience and get some hands-on knowledge in the field. “I like working at R & D because they give me the opportunity to grow and develop my skills. “
In his time away from work and school, Eric can be found riding his horse and spending time with friends and family.
Jonathan grew up in Kennesaw and has been working in HVAC for 4 years. A recent graduate of Chattahoochee Technical College, Jonathan came to work with R & D because he saw it as an opportunity to grow and learn new things in the industry. “I like the work environment at R & D, it’s a good place to be.”
On the weekends, Jonathan likes to hike and mountain bike. He enjoys a good trip to the lake and hanging out with his dog, Sadie.
Originally hailing from Tennessee, Nick came to work for R & D through a church small group connection. Nick enjoys working with his hands and is constantly building and creating. When asked what he most likes about R & D he said, “I like the people. I’ve never worked anywhere like this before. I’m surrounded by a family of good, honest people.”
When Nick is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family and dog, Ella. You can also find him hunting, woodworking or as he put it, ‘tinkering’ with different project.
With now over 25 years of experience in the HVAC industry, Robbie has extensive knowledge and experience in all things HVAC. In 2002, Robbie started R & D Mechanical Services with the mission to serve people. “Above anything else, we want to help people. We are not only creating HVAC solutions for our customers, but our experience in the HVAC industry is giving us a platform to be able to serve others in a way that is unique,” Robbie said when talking about the culture and “why” behind R & D.
Robbie is a faithful Christian and leader. When not at work, he has served as a church small group leader for the over 15 years and enjoys being with his family.
